The mission

Atomus exists to bring world-class cybersecurity to the organizations the world can least afford to have compromised. Our customers build hypersonic aircraft, satellites and space mission systems, autonomous defense platforms, and the AI and software powering the next generation of national security. When they're secure and compliant, they get to focus on the hard, important work of defending and advancing the country. That's the job we take off their plate.

We do it by turning security and compliance — historically slow, manual, and painful — into software delivered as a managed service. We already protect 100+ companies across the defense industrial base. We're now building the platform and the autonomous systems that will let us do it for the next thousand, without adding a thousand people to do it.

The moment

This is the rare early-stage seat where the mission is unambiguous, the customers are real and paying, and the hardest engineering is still ahead of us. We're a small team with a large surface area: a desktop agent running across Windows, macOS, and Ubuntu on customer fleets; a cloud platform that ties it all together; and a growing push into agentic systems that can reason about a customer's entire security posture and propose the changes that keep them protected.

You'll be one of the people who decides how all of that gets built. Founding engineers here don't inherit a system — they shape it, set the patterns the next twenty engineers inherit, and own problems end to end.

What you'll do

• Build the core engines behind our products — the infrastructure that senses, correlates, and acts across a customer's entire security environment
• Take our multi-platform desktop agent (Windows, macOS, Ubuntu) from strong to unbreakable, at fleet scale
• Work shoulder to shoulder with our Co-Founder and Customer Success team, staying close enough to the customer that you feel their problems before they file a ticket
• Lay the engineering and product foundations — how we ship, how we think, how we stay fast — that let this team keep moving as it grows
• Help us build a culture where security-first thinking is instinctive, not enforced

Who you are

• 7+ years building real software — either customer-facing SaaS platforms or multi-platform desktop applications and agents — and you have shipped things people depend on
• You go deep. You're the kind of engineer who wants to understand why a system behaves the way it does, all the way down
• You move fast, own outcomes, and are energized rather than paralyzed by ambiguity and a blank page
• You want your work to matter — and "our customers keep the country's most critical technology secure" lands for you

Nice, not required

• You've built in security or compliance and know how much the details matter
• You've wrestled large desktop applications and the cloud infrastructure behind them into working together
• You're comfortable across all three operating systems

NextJS, TypeScript, Postgres, Go, Electron, Azure, and GCP. We think exceptional engineers can pick up any stack, so don't self-select out if yours doesn't match ours line for line. We hire for judgment, depth, and the ability to ship — continuously.

This role is in person with the rest of the team in our downtown San Francisco office.
