About the job

Here's The Role

As a senior team member, you’ll design, develop, and maintain the critically important Energy Management System (EMS) tools and applications used to dispatch, monitor and control LCRA’s assets in the ERCOT electrical market. You’ll take on sophisticated grid challenges with a fresh perspective, ensuring seamless real-time operations and system reliability. We’re looking for a high-autonomy expert who thrives with solving intricate problems. This person will help drive continuous improvement and will mentor entry level and mid-tier colleagues in this fast-paced, and vital environment.

How You’ll Contribute

  • Leads operational technology projects and provides consultative expertise on the EMS, AVEVA PI, and related applications. Provides 24/7 on-call support. Uses EMS and PI software to design analytical tools.
  • Configures and sets up alarms, limits, ratings, and calculated points in EMS to support control rooms and RTU energization projects based on Transmission Engineering and SOCC Operations and EMS Technical Support's methodologies.
  • Participates in the development, testing, deployment, support, and maintenance of new SCADA/EMS devices, applications, databases, and operator displays.
  • Configure and maintain complex Jira workflows, develop custom plugins, and manage system permissions to optimize team productivity and ensure data security
  • Serves as a key contributor in managing EMS incidents, problems and anomalies including recognition, analysis and resolution. Performs root cause analysis, controls change management and utilizes effective communication practices. Make recommendations for new projects to resolve issues associated with assigned area of expertise.
  • Ensures awareness and provides input into ensuring EMS is compliant with NERC, FERC and ERCOT Security Critical Infrastructure Protection Standards.

How You’re Qualified

  • For GMS Applications Engineers:
  • Nine or more years of experience in developing, supporting and troubleshooting SCADA, ICCP, GMS (AGC/ECA etc.) applications or other relevant experience.
  • A degree(s) in electrical engineering, computer science, information technology, or relevant field may be substituted per LCRA guidelines for certain years of experience.

  • For EMS Applications Engineers:

  • Nine or more years of experience in developing, supporting and troubleshooting SCADA, ICCP, EMS applications or other relevant experience.

  • A degree(s) in electrical engineering, computer science, information technology, or relevant field may be substituted per LCRA guidelines for certain years of experience.

How You’ll Stand Out

  • Experience developing software code for SCADA/EMS applications, with specific knowledge of Transmission operations and GE Power on Reliance (POR) or equivalent software.
  • Knowledge of control systems and 24x7 real-time operations, including SCADA and Alarm database configurations compliant with RTU Protocols.
  • Strong skills in software development with an emphasis on C/C++, Python, Shell scripts, .Net/C#, SQL, and Java.
  • Experience with Linux/Windows Server operating systems and managing data using the Aveva PI data historian.
  • Experience in developing custom JIRA workflows, plugins, dashboards, and custom fields to support project tracking.
  • Preferred experience in developing advanced functions specifically designed for operators’ situational awareness.
