About Ohana
Ohana Handyman Group is building a technology platform designed to modernize how homeowners, property managers, vacation rental owners, small businesses, and independent service professionals handle home and property services.
We are starting with handyman services, where we already have deep operating experience. Our platform is being built around instant quoting, real appointment booking, payments, customer and property history, service-provider tools, safeguards, AI-powered assistance, communications, and the infrastructure independent professionals need to run and grow their businesses.
This is an early-stage company with a substantial existing product and codebase already built. We are now looking for the right technical person to help us stabilize it, improve it, and build the next stage of the company.
The Role
We are looking for a highly capable, hands-on full-stack engineer who can step into an existing codebase, understand how the system works, identify problems quickly, and take ownership of getting things working reliably.
This is not a narrowly defined engineering position where you will receive a list of tickets and disappear into the code.
You will work directly with the founder and have significant influence over technical decisions, architecture, priorities, documentation, integrations, and how the technical organization develops.
Initially, the priority is simple: understand the existing platform, stabilize it, fix the right problems properly, and make sure the company is no longer dependent on any single person understanding how everything works.
For the right person, this can grow into a major technical leadership position as Ohana scales.
What You’ll Work On
Learn and document an existing production codebase and infrastructure.
Diagnose, reproduce, and permanently resolve bugs across the full stack.
Improve platform reliability, performance, and maintainability.
Maintain and expand REST APIs and third-party integrations.
Work with payment systems such as Stripe.
Support AI-powered and voice-enabled features.
Improve internal tools, customer-facing functionality, and service-provider functionality.
Review architecture and identify technical debt, vulnerabilities, and unnecessary dependencies.
Improve monitoring, error tracking, backups, access controls, and technical documentation.
Help establish better development, testing, deployment, and change-management practices.
Help determine what should be rebuilt, improved, retained, or simplified.
Eventually help recruit, onboard, and lead additional technical talent as the company grows.
What We’re Looking For
You should be comfortable being dropped into an unfamiliar system and figuring things out without needing everything explained to you.
Strong candidates will have:
Strong full-stack development experience.
Experience working with substantial existing codebases.
Strong debugging and root-cause-analysis skills.
Experience with databases, APIs, authentication, and production systems.
Experience integrating third-party platforms and services.
Ability to understand unfamiliar architecture quickly.
Good judgment about when to repair something versus redesign it.
Experience using modern AI development tools to increase productivity.
Strong written and verbal communication.
A high level of personal ownership and follow-through.
Comfort working directly with a nontechnical founder.
The ability to explain technical issues in straightforward language.
We care more about capability, judgment, reliability, and ownership than a specific degree or pedigree.
Bonus Experience
Experience with any of the following is useful but not required:
Stripe or payment infrastructure.
AI APIs and LLM integrations.
ElevenLabs or other voice/audio platforms.
Marketplace or two-sided platform architecture.
Scheduling and booking systems.
SMS, email, CRM, or customer communication systems.
Home services, field services, gig platforms, or local marketplaces.
Early-stage startups.
Technical leadership or engineering management.
Security, infrastructure, DevOps, monitoring, or production reliability.
How We Work
This is a remote position with flexible working hours.
However, flexibility does not mean disappearing or working completely independently of the team. Because this is an early-stage company and a mission-critical technical role, we need dependable communication, agreed working availability, regular check-ins, and reasonable overlap for collaboration.
We move quickly, but we want problems solved correctly rather than patched repeatedly.
You will work directly with the founder, and your input will have a meaningful impact on both the product and the company.
Compensation
Ohana is currently in its pre-funding stage.
This opportunity is therefore equity-first initially rather than a traditional salaried position. We want that to be completely clear before anyone enters the process.
Our intention is to transition the role to competitive cash compensation once the company has adequate funding and financial resources to support it.
For candidates considering a long-term technical leadership role, meaningful equity is available based on experience, level of involvement, responsibilities, and long-term commitment.
The exact structure will be discussed individually rather than treating every engineer and every potential technical leader the same.
Who This Is Probably Right For
This may be a strong fit if you have reached the point where you want more than another engineering job.
Maybe you want to help build something from an early stage.
Maybe you want substantial ownership over the technology instead of owning one small piece of somebody else’s product.
Maybe you are interested in becoming an early technical leader — or potentially something larger over time — if the relationship, capability, and commitment are right.
There is already a real product here. There are real customers, real service professionals, real operational experience, and real problems worth solving.
We now need the right technical person to help turn what has already been built into something reliable, scalable, and significantly bigger.

Please send us:
A brief introduction.
Your LinkedIn, GitHub, portfolio, or other relevant work.

Why an equity-first early-stage opportunity is something you are interested in considering.
