About the job

About Our Company

Built on over four decades of pioneering research at Princeton University, our platform represents the leading edge of innovation in freight and transportation planning. We help customers unlock double-digit revenue gains and drive smarter, data-driven operations at scale.

With the recent close of our Series C funding round led by Koch Disruptive Technologies, we’re entering an exciting new phase of growth. Today, Optimal Dynamics is a high-growth company of ~70 employees, backed by top-tier investors including Bessemer Venture Partners, The Westly Group, Activate Capital, and Koch.

We're on a mission to redefine the way logistics decisions are made—and we’re just getting started.

About Our Team

We are a team of bright, kind, and solution-oriented people focused on creating value for our customers. We can solve problems individually, but understand that the best solutions are found when the team brainstorms ideas together. We are excited about balancing the need to deploy new solutions quickly and designing solutions that are secured, reliable, maintainable, and scalable for the long run.

About the Role

Optimal Dynamics is seeking a Senior Software Engineer, Frontend to join our Product Engineering team and lead the development and evolution of our customer-facing web applications. This role is focused on building high-performance, intuitive interfaces that translate complex logistics workflows into elegant, usable experiences.

As a senior-level individual contributor and frontend technical leader, you will define frontend architecture, establish best practices, and drive the development of scalable design systems. You’ll work closely with product, design, and backend teams to deliver cohesive, end-to-end user experiences that balance speed, reliability, and maintainability while elevating frontend engineering standards across the organization.

This is a full-time, remote-friendly role open to candidates across the U.S., with the option to work from our New York City headquarters. Ready to make an impact? Join us and help redefine the logistics industry!

What You’ll Do

  • Frontend Architecture & Development
Design, build, and scale performant, accessible, and maintainable frontend systems using modern frameworks (React, TypeScript). Own key UI architecture decisions, including state management, component design, and application structure.
  • Design Systems & UX Excellence
Lead the development and evolution of reusable component libraries and design systems that ensure consistency and scalability across the platform. Collaborate closely with design to deliver polished, user-centric interfaces.
  • Performance & Quality
Optimize application performance, load times, and responsiveness. Establish best practices around testing, observability, and frontend reliability.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration
Partner with product managers, designers, and backend engineers to deliver seamless, end-to-end features. Translate complex domain requirements into intuitive UI/UX solutions.

Who You Are

  • Educated: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Experienced
    • Senior level expertise in React and modern JavaScript/TypeScript ecosystems
    • Proven experience building and scaling complex, production-grade web applications (SPAs)
    • Deep understanding of frontend architecture, including state management, performance optimization, and component design patterns
    • Experience integrating with APIs and distributed backend systems
    • Familiarity with modern frontend tooling, testing frameworks, and CI/CD workflows
    • Experience collaborating with design teams using Figma, including interpreting design specs and contributing to design systems

Nice to Have (Bonus Points)

  • Experience mentoring engineers, driving technical decisions, and frontend excellence across teams.
  • Experience building or maintaining design systems or component libraries
  • Familiarity with data-heavy or real-time UIs (e.g., dashboards, operational tools)
  • Experience working with event-driven architectures (e.g., Kafka)
  • Background in logistics, transportation systems, or other complex operational domains
