Technical Lead

Bulqit is building the operating system for neighborhood home services. We cluster homes into "Blocks" to eliminate inefficiency for vendors and make home maintenance effortless for homeowners.

The platform is built. Now it needs to be owned, hardened, and scaled.

We are hiring a hands-on Head of Engineering to take full ownership of the system as we transition away from our external development partner and prepare for launch. This is not a maintenance role. This is a build, fix, and scale role.

You will work directly with the CEO and COO, both experienced entrepreneurs who have built and exited multiple companies. To be clear, you will be the leader of the organization from a technical perspective. This is an in-person role based at mHUB in Chicago.

What You'll Own

• The System: Architecture, infrastructure, security, and uptime across Bulqit’s full-stack JavaScript application (React/Node.js), including deployment and hosting via Vercel, database management via PostgreSQL (Neon), and all critical third-party integrations (including authentication, payments, messaging, and monitoring systems).
• Codebase Audit & Transition: Run a full audit of the existing system. Identify technical debt, logic gaps, and risks. Lead the transition from agency to in-house ownership.
• Shipping & Execution: Drive development forward. Prioritize what matters. Ship quickly. Improve continuously.
• Team Building: Build and manage a distributed team (including offshore). Set the quality bar and pace of execution.
• Business ↔ Tech Translation: Work directly with founders to translate business needs into clean, executable technical work.
• AI-Native Development: Use AI daily to write, review, and accelerate development. Identify opportunities to apply AI across internal tools and product workflows.

What We're Looking For

• You've built and shipped real products used by real customers.
• Strong in React (or Next.js), full-stack JavaScript (Node.js/serverless), and backend systems including PostgreSQL or similar databases.
• You can read a codebase quickly, identify problems, and fix them.
• You are hands-on, you write code, not just manage.
• You use AI as part of your daily workflow.
• You can operate at both the technical and business level.
• You move fast, ask good questions, and take ownership.

• Compensation: Competitive salary + meaningful early equity. We're flexible on the mix and candidates who lean into equity will be rewarded accordingly. Both co-founders have multiple successful exits, this isn't theoretical upside.
