L2 Labs is a new kind of AI lab pursuing research at the intersection of database systems + interoperability, driven by real-world challenges from our enterprise partners.

The role

We are seeking a Founding Software Engineer to help build product and implement novel research ideas from scratch. You will build product, be a part of research papers published at top-tier scientific venues, and work on open-source projects. We're looking for exceptional, passionate builders.

This is an owner-operator role - it's your opportunity to help build a new kind of applied AI research lab from the ground up, with very meaningful upside in the form of a generous equity package.

You:

• Have strong builder creds: participated in hackathons, built cool personal projects, built + shipped products (at scale is a plus)
• Are overflowing with ideas - as in, you are the type of person that when asked to implement a feature, you naturally fall into a cascade of "oh, and we could also add..." moments
• Are excited by the idea of working alongside PhD researchers, implementing novel ideas in AI, ML, and database systems
• Want end-to-end ownership of projects
• Have an olympic work ethic
• Are located in NYC or willing to relocate

We:

• Are fast-growing: we closed our pre-seed funding round, established partnerships with top univeristies, and closed a large enterprise customer in less than 3 months
• Have office space at both New York University's Brooklyn Heights campus and Cornell Tech's Roosevelt Island campus
• Have a technical founder with a CS PhD from a top-tier CS program
• Are 50+ hours in the office - not for the aesthetic of hard work, but because the hard work of being both a research + product company demands it (we do provide meals on weekend office days)
• Aim to publish in top-tier scientific venues at least 3 times a year, and include all technical team members as authors
