About the job

Aerial Robotics Engineer

Minimum Qualification- PhD (Preferred) or Master's Graduate

About Karta:

We are a deeptech company building autonomous systems from the ground up—safe, self-aware, and scalable.

Conventional unmanned systems fail when GPS is jammed, comms drop, terrain turns hostile, or conditions worsen. At Karta, we're creating true autonomy that perform missions under degraded conditions. We turn uncertain sensing into reliable action, even under the toughest operational constraints

About The Role:

We’re hiring a hands-on engineer to build and deploy real-world perception systems for drones. You’ll work across sensors, vision, and embedded AI — turning raw flight data into reliable, real-time intelligence on edge hardware.

We are looking to hire engineers full-time as well as interns.

What You’ll Do
● Develop and debug drone software using ROS2, including recording, analyzing, and troubleshooting rosbags.

● Work with mavros to interface with flight controllers and integrate onboard perception with vehicle state.

● Integrate cameras and other onboard sensors into synchronized, reliable perception pipelines.

● Perform camera calibration (intrinsic & extrinsic) for monocular, stereo, and multi-camera aerial setups.

● Optimize and deploy deep learning models using ONNX for real-time inference onboard the drone.

● Run perception workloads on embedded GPU platforms like NVIDIA Jetson.

● Evaluate system performance in flight logs and controlled tests to improve robustness and reliability.

What You Bring
● Strong hands-on ROS experience, including debugging live robotic or aerial systems.

● Experience using MAVROS to interface with drone flight stacks.

● Real-world experience with sensor integration and camera calibration.

● Experience deploying optimized AI models on embedded GPU hardware.

● Solid Python and C++ skills.

● Careful, methodical engineering habits — you validate results, document assumptions, and don’t cut corners.

How We Work
We value engineers who are rigorous, honest, and evidence-driven. That means:
● You verify results instead of guessing.

● You surface issues early rather than hiding them.

● You rely on logs, metrics, and reproducible tests — not intuition alone.

● You clearly document system limits, failure modes, and edge cases.

Bonus: Experience with visual-inertial systems, SLAM, multi-sensor fusion, flight testing, or production drone platforms.
