About the job

Who We Are

Founded in 1995, Consumer Cellular is the first wireless provider unapologetically built for Americans 50+. An approved wireless partner of AARP, Consumer Cellular differentiates itself from the competition with its affordable plans and unmatched customer service.

Job Summary

As a Principal Software Engineer on the Customer-Facing Digital Solutions team, specializing in Mobile (Android/iOS) and full-stack web application development, you will be expected to seamlessly integrate into the team with minimal guidance, demonstrating the ability to hit the ground running from day one. You will lead the technical aspects on the team, driving the architecture technical direction, along with taking over the current core Consumer Cellular mobile application and MyAccount web application. You'll be working to enable proper standards and procedure amongst the team and guide the rest of the team towards a more modernized approach. We’re looking for someone who loves solving big, complex problems, but also knows how to roll up their sleeves and get things moving. If you enjoy taking an idea from concept to reality, collaborating with smart teams, and leaving your mark on a system that will scale to millions of users, this is the place for you.

You Will

  • Lead and Mentor: Lead an agile engineering team as both a technical expert and key contributor. You will be responsible for building, mentoring, and growing a team of highly skilled engineers to craft beautiful, performant customer experiences.
  • Architect and Design: Architect and build complex, high-speed systems within the AWS ecosystem, ensuring scalability, maintainability, and performance. You will collaborate with the architecture team and set the long-term technical direction for the team, making critical decisions regarding technologies, frameworks, and methodologies.
  • Drive Quality and Standards: Own the quality of our digital experiences across web, mobile, tablet, and in-store kiosks. You will define and implement robust automated testing and quality assurance practices, enforcing high standards for code quality, conducting code reviews, and contributing to the resolution of complex technical issues and bugs.
  • Be Agile: Collaborate closely with the Scrum Master and Product Owner to define strategy and ensure clean, effective sprints, making sure the software meets customer needs.
  • Share Your Knowledge: Write and maintain clear documentation for system architectures, APIs, and codebases. You will remain current on new technologies and trends and develop Communities of Practice by mentoring peers and sharing knowledge.
  • Facilitate Cross-Functional Alignment: Actively manage risk and uncertainty, build a solid understanding of inter-team functional dependencies, and navigate appropriate communication channels to solve technical issues as they arise.
