Finance Associate

This role will be the single point of ownership for finance and accounts at EquityList, working closely with founders, operations and sales. The role requires hands-on execution as well as the ability to set up processes, controls, and dashboards from scratch.

Key Responsibilities

1. Accounting & Bookkeeping
2. Maintain complete and accurate books of accounts on a regular basis.
3. Record all transactions including revenue, expenses, accruals, provisions, and adjustments.

4. Ensure monthly, quarterly, and annual financial closing with proper documentation.

5. GST Compliance

6. Compute GST liability and ensure timely GST payments.

7. Identify transactions applicable under Reverse Charge Mechanism (RCM).

8. Compute GST payable under RCM and ensure timely payment.

9. Prepare and file GST returns (GSTR-1, GSTR-3B, annual returns, reconciliations).

10. Perform GST reconciliations between books and GST portal.

11. Coordinate with consultants for GST notices and assessments.

12. TDS & Payroll Tax Management

13. Compute and deposit TDS (salary and non-salary) on time.

14. Prepare and file TDS returns and manage Form 16 / 16A issuance.

15. Handle payroll tax components including PF.

16. Vendor & Payment Management

17. Manage vendor onboarding, documentation, and compliance checks.

18. Review and process vendor invoices.

19. Track vendor payments and resolve discrepancies.

20. Act as the primary finance point of contact for vendors and consultants.

21. Invoicing & Revenue Operations

22. Generate customer invoices and ensure accuracy in pricing, taxes, and terms.

23. Track collections, follow up on receivables, and manage aging reports.

24. Maintain proper revenue recognition in coordination with accounting standards.

25. Budgeting, Reporting & Dashboards

26. Prepare annual budgets and periodic forecasts.

27. Build and maintain dashboards for:
    Cash flow tracking
    Revenue vs expenses
    Runway and burn analysis
    Vendor spend analysis
    Unit economics
    Tax liability tracker (GST, TDS, RCM, payroll taxes)

28. Share periodic financial MIS with the founder and leadership.

29. Reconciliations

30. Perform regular bank, GST, TDS, and ledger reconciliations.

31. Identify mismatches and resolve discrepancies proactively.

32. Ensure clean books for audits and investor reviews.

33. Audit & Compliance Coordination

34. Coordinate statutory audits, tax audits, and internal reviews.

35. Act as the primary liaison with auditors, consultants, and regulatory authorities.

36. Maintain documentation required for audits, due diligence, and investor queries.

37. Process Setup & Controls

38. Set up finance processes and internal controls suitable for a growing startup.

39. Identify gaps, risks, and improvement areas in finance operations.

40. Drive automation and efficiency in finance workflows.

Requirements & Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Commerce, Finance, or Accounting; CA/CMA/MBA (Finance) preferred.
• 3-6 years of experience in accounting, taxation, or finance roles, preferably in a startup or high-growth environment.
• Strong hands-on knowledge of GST (including RCM), TDS, and payroll compliances.
• Experience in budgeting, MIS reporting, and financial analysis.
• Proficient in Excel / Google Sheets and accounting tools like Tally, Zoho Books, or QuickBooks.
• Ability to work independently, coordinate with consultants and auditors, and build finance processes from scratch.
• Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and clear communication.
• High ownership mindset with integrity and a hands-on, execution-oriented approach.
