About the job
Trading Infrastructure Engineer
We’re looking for an experienced software engineer to help bring an existing trade execution infrastructure into production and extend it for a new generation of trading workflows.
The core system is substantially built. This role is about understanding the existing architecture, refactoring it to fit our current infrastructure, connecting new order-generation endpoints, integrating new asset classes, and deploying the algorithms that will ultimately drive execution.
For the right candidate, we'd be open to trying new architectures and experimenting. You’ll work closely with the PM and CEO on a lean team, with significant ownership over the system and its evolution.
We will move quickly.
What You’ll Do
Trading & Execution Infrastructure
- Take ownership of an existing trade execution system and bring it up to current production standards.
- Refactor existing services and code to integrate cleanly with our current infrastructure.
- Build and maintain interfaces for receiving orders from new endpoints and upstream systems.
- Integrate equities and ETFs into the execution stack, initially through Interactive Brokers.
- Develop, deploy, and maintain execution algorithms and associated order-management logic.
- Build the monitoring, logging, error handling, and controls required for reliable live trading.
Systems Engineering
- Work across the full execution stack, from order generation and routing through broker connectivity and execution.
- Improve system architecture, reliability, observability, and operational resilience.
- Work with APIs, databases, queues, services, and cloud infrastructure as required.
- Diagnose and resolve issues across an existing codebase rather than treating the system as a greenfield build.
- Establish clean interfaces and abstractions that allow additional asset classes, brokers, and execution strategies to be added over time.
Research → Production
- Work directly with the PM to translate trading logic and strategies into production execution systems.
- Collaborate closely with the CEO on system architecture, priorities, and product requirements.
- Help bridge the gap between research, signal generation, order construction, and live execution.
- Iterate quickly as strategies and requirements evolve.
Who You Are
- Experienced engineer. You have several years of professional software engineering experience and are comfortable taking ownership of an existing production system.
- Strong systems instincts. You care about reliability, clean interfaces, failure modes, observability, and writing software that behaves predictably under real-world conditions.
- Python proficient. Strong Python experience is important; experience with TypeScript/JavaScript or other systems languages is useful.
- Comfortable with APIs and integrations. You have worked with REST APIs, external services, authentication, asynchronous processes, and third-party infrastructure.
- Able to work in an existing codebase. You enjoy understanding what is already there, identifying what needs to change, and making targeted improvements rather than rebuilding everything from scratch.
- Interested in markets. You don't need to be a quant, but you should be genuinely interested in trading, market structure, and how software connects investment decisions to execution.
- Independent and pragmatic. This is a small team. You should be comfortable taking an ambiguous problem, figuring out what needs to happen, and driving it through implementation.
- High attention to detail. In an execution environment, correctness matters. You understand that seemingly small issues around state, timing, retries, order status, or data can have meaningful consequences.
Particularly Relevant Experience
Experience with any of the following is highly relevant:
- Interactive Brokers / IBKR APIs or other broker connectivity
- Order management or execution systems
- Algorithmic trading or electronic trading infrastructure
- Equities and ETF execution
- Trading APIs and FIX
- Portfolio or order-management systems
- Market data systems
- Python-based trading infrastructure
- PostgreSQL or other relational databases
- AWS or other cloud infrastructure
- Docker / containerized services
- Event-driven or asynchronous systems
- Monitoring, logging, and production observability
The Role
This is a part-time engineering role with substantial ownership and direct exposure to the PM and CEO.
The majority of the core infrastructure already exists. The immediate mandate is to understand it, revive it, modernize it where necessary, and extend it into a reliable execution platform supporting new order endpoints, equities and ETFs, Interactive Brokers connectivity, and algorithmic execution.
**Compensation: Negotiable.
