Software Velocity Corp is an early-stage (pre-seed) startup based in Greater Boston, on a mission to reinvent how the world tests software. Development teams are shipping faster than ever before, especially with AI-accelerated development, yet testing can't keep up with the speed or thoroughness modern software demands. We're building an intelligent platform that closes that gap, giving software teams in any industry, domain, or platform the ability to ship higher-quality software dramatically faster. We're small, focused, and building something we believe will genuinely reshape the industry. And we're looking for a few exceptional people to build it with us.

About the role

As one of our first front-end engineers, you'll own the experience layer of our platform end to end: the interfaces our users live in every day. Working shoulder-to-shoulder with our Chief Architect and core team, you'll help define not just the product, but the front-end architecture, patterns, and quality bar that everything else is built on. This is a genuinely high-ownership role: your decisions will shape how engineers everywhere eventually experience our product. You'll turn ambiguous, interesting problems into elegant, resilient, performant interfaces and you'll be accountable for the craft and quality of what ships to production. Successful candidates will have a strong background in building products or microservices, utilizing cloud services, APIs, and AI-development assistance to meet design and business objectives. You will be solving diverse and interesting problems, transforming our vision into reality, while being accountable for the quality, correctness, and resilience of what ships to production.

Our Ask of You

• Our mission genuinely excites you, and you want to help shape it from the ground up.
• You bring 10+ years of professional software engineering experience, including hands-on ownership of architecting, building, and evolving production systems.
• You embrace AI-native development: you already use AI tools as a core part of how you design, build, and test, and you're excited to push what they make possible.
• You've been personally accountable for software quality e.g. test driven development, design for testability, failure prevention, learning from real production issues, etc.
• You do excellent work semi-autonomously, with strong technical and quality judgment.
• You're comfortable engaging as an independent contractor, compensated through a combination of cash and scheduled equity under a written contractor agreement, with cash compensation in the posted range on an annualized basis.
• You're curious, collaborative, low-ego, and equally eager to learn and to teach.
• Employment Eligibility Requirement (ITAR/EAR): To conform to U.S. Government export regulations, including the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) and the Export Administration Regulations (EAR), applicants must be a 'U.S. Person' as defined by 22 C.F.R. § 120.62. This includes U.S. citizens, lawful permanent residents (Green Card holders), asylees, or refugees.

• Own the architecture: Establish the front-end patterns, components, and standards the rest of the team will build on.
• Design for scale: Partner on end-to-end systems optimized for speed, reliability, and growth.
• Engineer for quality: Build with testing and resilience designed in — not bolted on — and take pride in what ships.
• Collaborate closely: Partner with UX to bring designs to life, with back-end engineers to shape clean API contracts, and with product to turn requirements into features users love.
• Communicate openly: Collaborate day to day via Slack, GitHub, and videoconferences.
