| About the role

As a Strategic Foresight Analyst, you are responsible for supporting the planning and analysis of a broad range of department and project-based priorities for Payments Canada. The incumbent will gather information, analyze it, effectively disseminate it and liaise with other team members and the leadership team of the organization to provide insights and implications that will lead to concrete recommendations and plans.

You will work with a team of dedicated research professionals committed to sharpening Payments Canada’s leading edge in the payments ecosystem. The research program at Payments Canada aligns with the objectives outlined in the organization’s strategic plan. Central to the team’s mandate is to execute a corporate research agenda that maintains Payments Canada as a Center of Excellence for payments, clearing, and settlement knowledge and research.

The Purpose of this role is assess existing and emerging trends that are driving the payments ecosystem and Payments Canada. The Strategic foresights team is focused on the following key initiatives:

Monitoring trends impacting our industry today and tomorrow.

  • Tracking global and Canadian innovations in payments.
  • Understanding Financial Market Infrastructure (FMI) and Payment Service Provider (PSP) initiatives.
  • Perform a consulting, advisory and knowledge- building role for internal teams in developing/maintaining strategic initiatives.
  • Leverage and expand strategic partnerships to expand our knowledge base, create relationships for future talent and foster innovation.

|What you’ll do

Your responsibilities for this role will include:

Strategic knowledge development and communication:

  • Remaining current and developing knowledge products based on deep understanding of ecosystem developments and research outputs, and how to communicate their implications and significance to a broader audience (the “so what”).

Market insight facilitation and collaboration:

  • Communicating market insight output to a broader audience and facilitating dialogue to inform and enhance research agenda.
  • Establish relationships to foster collaboration with internal stakeholders and participate in contact with external stakeholders.
  • Assisting in the development and implementing knowledge transition strategy from Research/Market Insights to operating business areas.
  • Coordinating status updates, and facilitating meetings with staff, stakeholders and members as part of the above.

Content development and strategic engagement:

  • Driving and developing content and reports on topics related to payments market intelligence and engagement.
  • Participating as a SME on the Market Insights team and supporting this engagement with a consultative role for cross-functional teams at Payments Canada.
  • Link quantitative and qualitative research input to strategic foresight deliverables including, executive briefing notes, topic summaries, and trend tracking reports.
  • Planning and actively contributing for our annual report on payment challenges and innovations.
  • Provide feedback to other research deliverables, including those from Market Research and Business Economics teams.

|Minimum qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree in social sciences, research, business, economics or a related field of relevant experience.
  • A minimum of three (3) years of progressive experience in quantitative and/or qualitative research, and synthesizing and consolidating complex information, including support for the development of research papers, briefing notes, and presenting insightful and strategic output to a wider audience.
  • Experience in the financial or payments industry.
  • Experience in establishing effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Experience in supporting multiple priorities and projects.
  • Government of Canada Reliability clearance or eligibility to obtain.

|Preferred qualifications

  • Bilingualism (English and French) is considered an asset.

|Salary range

  • Based on qualifications and experience: CAD 78,031 and CAD 97,539.
