NDE OPERATIONS SPECIALIST, UT (COMPOSITES)
The NDE Operations Specialist will be responsible for owning the training, equipment reliability, new technique rollout, and process improvements for the relevant method. This position will hold expectations for Specialist activities and inspection execution. It is open to all methods and the below listed responsibilities are specific to relevant primary method(s) of the individual. We need individuals who are motivated, collaborators, and at the top of the field within their primary method(s) to be successful in this role.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Inspection Responsibilities (10% of time)
- Perform inspections on flight and GSE hardware
- Interpret, evaluate, communicate, and report findings to production and engineering
- Interpret and review engineering drawings as required
- Continuously improve the safety and reliability of the operations environment
- Specialist Responsibilities (90% of time)
- Own the improvement and execution of the training program for the relevant method
- Operate as the first point of contact for technique based questions from inspectors and engineering
- Work with engineering (design, NDE, and manufacturing) on process improvements including descopes, inspection reliability evaluation/improvement, and rollout of development projects. This necessitates a strong relationship and collaboration with NDE engineering
- Own the equipment reliability strategy and execution for the relevant method
- Perform technical interviews of NDE inspector candidates
- Develop and maintain relationships with key external vendors
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
- 5+ years as a certified Level II NDE inspector in ultrasonic testing (UT), composites
PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
- Experience influencing partner teams and peers to unify to a common vision
- Computer skills: Microsoft (Outlook, Excel, Word, and Power Point)
- Knowledge of NASA 5009 standards, AMS, AWS / ASME, ASTM etc.
- Experience performing root cause analysis on suspect inspection escapes
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Must be able to lift 25 lbs. unassisted, bend, stretch, stand for extended periods of time, climb stairs, reach, twist
- Must be willing to work overtime and on weekends if needed
- Must be willing to travel as needed (10% - 20%)
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:
Pay range:
NDE Specialist/Level 1: $30.00 - $38.00/hour
NDE Specialist/Level 2: $34.00 - $43.00/hour
NDE Specialist/Level 3: $38.00 - $48.00/hour
Your actual level and base salary will be determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on the following considerations: job-related knowledge and skills, education, and experience.
Base salary is just one part of your total rewards package at SpaceX.
