Data Scientist – Search

To achieve this, you’ll be working together with Java Engineers, Machine Learning Engineers and Product Analysts as we strongly believe a cross-functional team finds the best solutions!

*About the role *

1. Work as an interface between Product Management, (ML-)Engineers and Analysts for idealo's search to provide our customers with the best possible search experience.
2. Analyze large volumes of search data to identify patterns, trends, and insights. Develop statistical models and machine learning algorithms to extract valuable information and improve search relevance together with the team.
3. Elaborate requirements for data-driven solutions, identify dependencies, formulate them clearly and precisely, and lead the development of the solution together with your team.
   
4. Deliver data-driven solutions together with metrics for constant quality control (e.g. on dashboards), if necessary also as a service or package with a documented API.
   
5. Being familar with A/B testing, you can formulate hypotheses together with Analyst roles to identify and interpret causal effects.
   
6. You recognize the potential of existing data and can identify and collect missing data.
   

*Skills and requirements *

1. At least 3 years of professional experience as a Data Scientist with a track record of completed projects.
2. You enjoy to independently and systematically dig into complex data and machine learning tasks. You can set your own goals and produce quantitative results in a goal-oriented manner which you can present in a comprehensible way.
   
3. You are proficient in Python's scientific computing packages (numpy, scipy, pandas, et.al.) and are able to produce concise visualizations that support your results.
   
4. You are proficient in SQL and familiar with efficiently querying large, distributed datasets.
   
5. You have initial experience with Python's Machine Learning packages beyond scikit-learn and the use of object embeddings.
6. Excellent communication skills in English, both oral and written. Intermediate communication skills in German are a big plus!

*Tasks you will be working on *

1. Holistic understanding and development of search services pipeline (logically & mathematically).
2. Support Named Entity Recognition improvements and quality evaluations.
3. Support the team in POCs for Vector Search and Hybrid search and evaluation methods.
4. Feature discovery, engineering, evaluation for ranking algorithm (incl. LTR).
5. Customer segmentation, problem discovery, business impact assessment, solution design (incl. recognizing, cleaning data for analysis e.g. bot-traffic).
6. Knowledge graph, vector search, solution technology evaluation.
7. NLP - Linguistic analysis of search queries and product information for development of matching solutions for relevance incl. intend recognition and precision/recall of results (German language skills).
8. Improve off-/online evaluation metrics for e-commerce search.
9. Composition and structuring (UX) of search results incl. alternative and complementary product recommendations (problem discovery, solution design, evaluation).
10. Tasks will generally include applying deep statistical analysis, evaluation of Machine Learning related concepts and evaluation of LLM applicability for search related feature improvements.
