Senior Data Engineer

We are Handshake Health! We are a funded, pre-seed startup looking for our first engineering hire. Our mission is to use AI to cut through bureaucracy in the healthcare sector. We help companies identify winnable public contracts, assemble bids automatically, and price optimally. This is a fully remote position. Applicants must be located in the US and are expected to be available during East Coast working hours.

Key Responsibilities:

• Design, develop, and maintain scalable data pipelines and architectures.
• Implement asynchronous processing solutions using Python.
• Deploy and manage code in cloud environments to ensure optimal performance and reliability.
• Design and optimize database schemas, queries, and indexing strategies.
• Extracting actionable information from sources for public contracts.
• Establish and maintain CI/CD pipelines and adopt DevOps best practices.
• Utilize data lineage and data quality tools, with a preference for experience using DBT.
• Monitor system performance, troubleshoot issues, and implement analytical solutions for optimization.

Technical Skills:

• Proficiency in Python, particularly with asynchronous processing.
• Experience deploying applications in cloud environments (AWS, GCP, or Azure).
• Strong understanding of database design and management.
• Familiarity with CI/CD tools and DevOps frameworks.
• Experience building scalable data pipelines.
• Knowledge of data lineage and data quality tools; experience with DBT is a plus.
• Analytical skills for debugging and performance monitoring.

Bonus Skills:

• Experience with vector search and Large Language Model (LLM) frameworks.
• Previous startup experience or a desire to work in a startup environment.
• Statistical modeling / traditional machine learning skills a plus.
