About the job
As an Engineering Manager on the Metrics Platform, you and your team will be responsible for the reliable scheduling and execution of queries that power Datadog’s most critical infrastructure monitoring features. Our platform ingests several hundreds of TB’s/day and performs hundreds of thousands of queries per second; scalability, accuracy and reliability are paramount.
Metrics Timeseries database is at the heart of storing and querying monitoring data. You will be responsible for leading and growing the talented software engineers on the team, as well as partnering with other Engineering Manager and Product Managers. You will develop and deliver a roadmap that scales the Timeseries database with high resilience, fault tolerance and cost efficiency.
At Datadog, we place value in our office culture - the relationships that it builds, the creativity it brings to the table, and the collaboration of being together. We operate as a hybrid workplace to ensure our employees can create a work-life harmony that best fits them.
What You’ll Do
- Manage a team of software engineers ranging from new grads to senior engineers, focusing on career development, inclusivity, and high impact
- Own day to day engineering and team responsibilities for custom Timeseries database in a highly scaled environment deployed in Amazon, Google and Azure public clouds
- Be a technical leader of the team; while the role may not involve frequent hands on coding, you’ll be reviewing architecture decisions, RFCs, and pull requests and ensuring what the team ships is high quality
- Share on-call responsibilities with the rest of the team and ensure a culture of operational excellence
- Run and optimize team processes, ensuring the successful delivery of high quality work
Who You Are
- You’ve led high-scale customer-facing services where uptime, performance, and correctness are business-critical
- You are an excellent leader with strong interpersonal skills, and you have the ability to build and lead high-performing teams, mentoring junior and senior engineers to help them grow their careers
- You have a track record of delivering high-quality software products on schedule and collaborating closely with product management to set the vision and strategy for your projects
- You are experienced with being on-call, leading incident responses, writing post mortems, and driving remediation efforts
- You have a BS/MS/PhD in a Computer Science, Engineering or related scientific field or equivalent experience
- [Bonus] Expert in Rust language for performance and latency sensitive environments
*Datadog values people from all walks of life. We understand not everyone will meet all the above qualifications on day one. That's okay. If you’re passionate about technology and want to grow your skills, we encourage you to apply. *
