We’re a small, mission-driven team passionate about reshaping online communities, and we’re looking for a Growth Marketer to lead the charge in acquiring users and refining our marketing strategies. This role is perfect for someone who thrives on creating impactful marketing campaigns and understands the value of building a strong, grassroots community from the ground up—primarily within high schools, university and college campuses, though you’ll also have the autonomy to explore and test other channels that drive user acquisition.
About the Role\
As our Growth Marketer, you will play a key role in building Schmick’s user base. This is an incredible opportunity to make a huge impact at an early-stage startup. You’ll be the catalyst of our growth, designing and executing strategies that will help Schmick reach its next major milestone. While the main focus will be on grassroots efforts at high schools and campuses, you’ll have the flexibility to expand these initiatives to other communities and channels as you see fit. The faster we grow, the quicker we can secure funding, giving you a direct impact on helping us raise our next round.
This position is equity-based for now, with the potential to transition to a paid position once we secure funding. As we achieve user acquisition and growth milestones, your equity stake can increase, reflecting your direct impact on Schmick’s trajectory.
Key Responsibilities:
- Pioneering Community Playbooks: Design, test, and refine growth marketing strategies that target high school and university campuses to drive user acquisition, while having the freedom to apply successful tactics across other channels and communities.
- Grassroots Campaigns and Atomic Networks: Develop campus ambassador programs and grassroots campaigns to spread the word about Schmick, establishing tight-knit networks on each campus or high school that can be replicated in other communities.
- Innovative Engagement Campaigns: Create and refine marketing efforts that drive user engagement, encourage referrals, and build authentic communities.
- Collaboration with Leadership: Work closely with the leadership team to develop a long-term, data-driven growth strategy that aligns with Schmick’s mission.
- Optimization of Onboarding and Engagement: Partner with the product team to enhance user flows and retention for new users.
Requirements:
- Proven experience in growth marketing, community building, or campus marketing—especially for apps, social media platforms, or other tech startups.
- A passion for social media, technology, and creating authentic online communities.
- Creative, data-driven, and entrepreneurial mindset with a focus on achieving measurable growth.
- Familiarity with social media marketing, email campaigns, and viral referral programs.
- Ability to work independently, take initiative, and thrive in a fast-paced, remote environment.
- Bonus: Prior experience working with bootstrapped or lean startups.
- Bonus: Established network within campus or high school communities and/or experience managing ambassador programs.
- Bonus: Experience in executing grassroots or guerrilla marketing tactics, particularly on a limited budget, to achieve high impact.
- Bonus: Basic SEO or content marketing skills to drive organic user acquisition.
Important: Please be aware this role does not have a marketing budget. We’re looking for someone with a track record of driving significant user acquisition without relying on paid ads or marketing spend.
