WHY BOX NEEDS YOU?

The Event Stream team’s mission is to provide highly-available, consistent and easy-to-use services for near-realtime access to our users’ data graphs. Developers at Box routinely face challenges of serving millions of requests per second, while providing enterprise-grade uptime, consistency and performance guarantees. Our goal is to let them focus on business logic, while we make sure the data layer lives up to their requirements.

As the manager of the Event Stream team, you are going to have a unique opportunity to shape the future of core data at Box, especially as we take advantage of our new home in the cloud. Collaborating with several teams across our relational data tier, you will lead the team to develop and scale our near-realtime data access interfaces that provide a change data stream of all actions performed on the graph and a highly scalable data warehouse that can support complex data processing. You will engage with client teams to understand their use cases, enhance the interfaces to support those use cases and drive wider adoption across engineering. You will advocate for and ensure that our services meet our availability, performance and reliability SLOs. Join us in shaping and implementing the roadmap to achieve our team’s technical vision of transforming our core data tier into a truly self-contained platform.

WHAT YOU'LL DO:

• Work with the team tech leads to define the future of Event Stream architecture in the cloud and evolve our systems towards it
• Guide team members as they design novel approaches to addressing scale and performance challenges associated with exponentially increasing usage of our data tier
• Build a cohesive team with a strong sense of ownership and a culture of fast execution while consistently maintaining a high standard of quality
• Champion a culture of continuous improvement, innovation, and increased automation to optimize efficiency, reduce toil, and deliver long-term value
• Develop objectives and key results to meet business goals, and drive the team to deliver against them
• Guide the professional growth of engineers, providing relevant and timely career guidance and feedback
• Develop and implement initiatives to ensure our systems consistently meet availability, performance and reliability SLOs

WHO YOU ARE:

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Computer Science, Mathematics or a related field
• 5+ years of experience working with distributed systems
• 2+ years of leading engineering teams
• Strong understanding of common algorithms, data structures and code design principles
• Strong grasp of high-scale distributed systems
• Passionate about database scale and performance challenges
• Strong sense of ownership, persistence and drive, strong communication
• Can drive technical discussions and develop their own intuition and point of view about technical challenges facing the team
