OPERATIONS ENGINEER, LAUNCH STRATEGY (FALCON)
The Launch Operations Strategy team helps to lead and guide the launch organization and its partners by formalizing our future launch plan, defining operational targets and helping teams with the operational execution. We are looking for a talented individual to join the team as an Operations Engineer with focus on business intelligence including data engineering, visualization and analysis in a dynamic industrial engineering environment. This role is responsible for using analytics to provide business critical insight to ensure cross-functional alignment of goals and execution between core launch teams including pads, recovery, vehicle maintenance and operations, production, and test.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide day-to-day tactical recommendations, identifying and addressing trends, scheduling and strategic planning expertise in support of growth targets and daily execution with excellence and precision
- Develop and track key performance metrics, identify decision points and actions to optimize production and engineering to meet launch targets
- Effectively integrate, organize, standardize and relate operational data using SQL, power automate, Power BI and Microsoft Excel
- Turn data into insights, create reports and alerts using automated procedures for operational measurement and improvement to support decision making
- Develop and maintain trusted source of Power BI reporting tools and assist teams in building their own dashboards with focus on training, data integrity, tool maintenance, and reporting quality
- Establish deep understanding of all aspects of the launch ecosystem (teams, hardware, production floor, environment, process, systems, tools, limitations) and ability to effectively quantify, articulate, and realize change opportunities
- Analyze and determine insights from trends and operating metrics to inform launch strategy and targets, debrief leadership and partner with teams to address changes
- Identify, develop and implement process improvements, conduct process engineering, value mapping and automation and ensure best practices are effectively prioritized and rolled out across internal and external stakeholders
- Assist in manifest planning and change management activities and create feedback loops to inform requirements for minimal viable products and future proven system design
- Provide daily visibility, weekly status, and monthly reviews on operations performance
- Help solve industrial engineering challenges and process improvements focusing on safety, reliability, cycle time, exit rates output optimization and yield improvements
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's degree in engineering, physics, or mathematics
- 2+ years of experience as an operations, process, manufacturing, or industrial engineer in a manufacturing or production environment
- 2+ years of experience using SQL, Power BI, Python/R, and/or Excel for analysis or modeling
PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
- 2+ years of experience using SQL and/or python in business analysis, Power BI/Tableau for data visualization, product management, applications/software development, or ERP systems support
- 2+ years of experience in information management and workflow solutions such as JIRA and confluence
- 1+ years of experience as data engineer: working with databases, organizing, relating, preparing and storing data
- 1+ years of scheduling experience with Smartsheet, MS Project, other scheduling software
- 1+ years of practical experience with ERP/MRP and systems in a production environment
- Experience applying Lean and quality tools such as Process Mapping, Six Sigma, Root Cause Analysis and Corrective Action, and various problem-solving approaches
- Experience building data visualization dashboards with Power BI, Tableau, or equivalent
- Prior experience with production systems analysis, planning, integrated process scheduling, process engineering incl. value mapping and asset allocation management
- Project management skills – ability to define, plan, execute, monitor, and close projects
- Ability to rapidly change priorities in a high-paced, dynamic environment
- Ability to communicate clearly and accurately with a wide range of people with a positive attitude
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills and ability to create options, cost/benefit scenarios and formulate concise recommendations with peers and leadership
- Strong communicator, curiosity driven and openness to receive and provide feedback
- Ability to develop and maintain strong relationships across disciplines and with multiple levels of management
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Must be willing to travel to other launch sites in support of operational activities and launches
- Ability to pass Air Force background checks for Cape Canaveral and Vandenberg
- Must be willing to work weekends and night shifts as necessary to meet business needs
- Required to spend time in the field on regular basis: pad, recovery, production floor
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:
Pay range:
Operations Engineer/Level I: $95,000.00 - $115,000.00/per year
Operations Engineer/Level II: $110,000.00 - $130,000.00/per year
Your actual level and base salary will be determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on the following considerations: job-related knowledge and skills, education, and experience.
Base salary is just one part of your total rewards package at SpaceX. You may also be eligible for long-term incentives, in the form of company stock, stock options, or long-term cash awards, as well as potential discretionary bonuses and the ability to purchase additional stock at a discount through an Employee Stock Purchase Plan.
