THE POSITION

We are seeking a Vice President of Data Science to lead FanDuel’s strategic direction and vision for data science and ML within the FanDuel Data Organization. This is a key role in a fast-paced environment working with functional stakeholders in Commercial, Product, Marketing, Customer Service Operations and Data to identify FanDuel’s business challenges and opportunities, and translate them into actionable, integrated, algorithm-driven solutions. This role will champion a data-driven culture by fostering collaboration and common data literacy across data teams and business functions. They will drive the development and implementation of advanced analytics models and machine learning algorithms to extract valuable insights from data that drive the business forward.
They will have the ability to communicate complex data analysis and findings effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences. They will be responsible to stay abreast of emerging data trends and technologies and champion their adoption within the organization.

- Leadership & Team Development: Lead and mentor the Data Science team, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and collaboration. Provide guidance and support to ensure the delivery of high-quality algorithmic solutions that meet stakeholder needs.
- Data Science Management: Develop and execute a comprehensive data science strategy that aligns with the company’s business objectives and vision. Identify opportunities for data-driven innovation and guide the development of new algorithmic solutions and features.
- Executive Collaboration: Collaborate with senior executives to define success metrics for data science products, ensuring alignment with business goals and driving measurable impact.
- Innovation: Stay current with emerging technologies and industry trends to maintain a competitive edge. Drive innovation within the data science team by encouraging the adoption of new algorithms, tools, methodologies, and practices that enhance product effectiveness.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Engage with stakeholders across the organization to understand their data needs and translate them into actionable requirements. Ensure that data scientists deliver value and meet the evolving demands of the business.
- Communication & Advocacy: Communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical audiences, ensuring all stakeholders are informed and confident in data science decisions. Advocate for the use of algorithms and analytics in decision-making processes throughout the company.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with engineering, data governance, data science and other teams to ensure seamless integration of data science products across FanDuel’s ecosystem.
THE STATS
What we're looking for in our next teammate
- PhD preferred
- 10+ years of experience in leading 20 mid - large Data Science Organizations
- 15+ years of Data Science experience including designing, building and deploying Algorithms at scale
- Proven track record of leading and scaling data Science teams in large, fast-paced technology driven environment – direct to consumer experience preferred
- Experience in building algorithms at scale in at least two of the following areas – Recommendation and Personalization, Fraud and Payments, Time Series models, Predictive models for CRM, NLP and Chatbots
- Exceptional leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Experience managing large and complex projects involving multiple teams
- Proficiency in advanced analytics techniques and machine learning algorithms, including natural language processing, time series analysis, and other relevant methods.
- High familiarity with Data Science techniques including emerging areas like GenAI
- Ability to think strategically and execute methodically, with a strong sense of ownership and drive

The applicable salary range for this position is $239,000 - $305,000, which is dependent on a variety of factors including relevant experience, location, business needs and market demand. This role may offer the following benefits: medical, vision, and dental insurance; life insurance; disability insurance; a 401(k) matching program; among other employee benefits. This role may also be eligible for short-term or long-term incentive compensation, including, but not limited to, cash bonuses and stock program participation. This role includes paid personal time off and 14 paid company holidays. FanDuel offers paid sick time in accordance with all applicable state and federal laws.
