Principal Frontend Engineer

Who you are:

As a Principal Frontend Engineer, you are a technical leader, shaping and driving the user experience at Clerk Chat. You take ownership of complex challenges and deliver highly interactive, scalable, and reliable applications. With a deep understanding of frontend architecture, performance optimization, and scalability, you’ll lead efforts to improve the messaging interface, user onboarding, and AI-driven workflows. You’re passionate about building seamless user experiences in a real-time data-heavy environment.

What You Will Do:

• Lead the development and enhancement of our messaging interface, ensuring high scalability and reliability
• Drive the integration of AI workflows into the frontend experience
• Spearhead the design and implementation of user onboarding features
• Optimize the front-end architecture for performance in a highly interactive, data-intensive environment
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including backend engineers, AI specialists, and UI/UX designers
• Mentor and guide frontend engineers, ensuring high-quality code and design practices
• Make critical architectural decisions that impact the scalability and performance of our frontend systems
• Ensure the frontend codebase maintains high standards of testing, using frameworks within React

What You Will Need:

• Empathy and a user-focused mindset
• Extensive experience with Typescript, HTML, CSS.
• Deep expertise in React and related frameworks
• Practical knowledge of testing frameworks in React (e.g., Jest, Cypress, React Testing Library)
• Proven experience designing and optimizing highly interactive, real-time and data-intensive web applications
• Ability to architect and scale frontend systems for high-availability environments
• Familiarity with continuous delivery, version control systems (e.g., Git), and automated testing
• Strong autonomy, self-motivation, and time management skills
• A passion for mentoring and helping other engineers grow
