About Girls Who Code: Girls Who Code is an international nonprofit organization dedicated to closing the gender gap in technology. We inspire, educate, and equip students who identify as girls or nonbinary with the computing skills needed to pursue 21st-century opportunities. Since our launch in 2012, we have reached 670,000 students through in-person and virtual programs, with 218,000 alumni who are college or career-aged.

The Finance and Grants Manager will play a critical role in supporting the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) by leading grants management and managing financial operations, including collaborating with the outsourced Accounting team based in India. This position involves collaboration with various teams to achieve programmatic, fundraising, and management goals through timely and trusted financial planning, analysis, and reporting, as well as ensuring the highest level of financial and risk management.

Candidates must meet the requirement of our hybrid remote work policy, which requires 2 in-office days per week. This is not a virtual/fully remote position.

Key Responsibilities: Grants Management (60%)

  • In partnership with the Development and Programs teams, provide financial management of the Girls Who Code grants portfolio, including:
  • Developing budget requests for grant proposals;
  • Monitoring grant spending to ensure resources are being allocated efficiently and align with approved budgets;.
  • Leading quarterly grant check-in meetings with Programs and Development teams to review spending rates of each grant, determine if modifications or extensions need to be requested from the funder, and assess progress throughout the grant cycle
  • Review unrestricted expenses quarterly to shift unfunded expenses to grants
  • Ensure compliance with donor and grant audits, providing necessary financial information and reports
  • Provide grants management, contracts, and budgeting training to GWC staff

Key Responsibilities: Financial Management (20%)

  • Collaborate with Budget Owners across the organization to review, monitor, and manage the annual budget and monthly forecasting
  • Manage the annual update of the Fiscal Policies and Procedures (FPP), research best practices, review current practices and make recommendations for updating and improving the FPP
  • Collaborate with the India-based outsourced Accounting team to prepare financial reports, annual audit, payables and receivables management and assist with cash flow forecasting

Finance Operations (10%)

  • Train and support staff on finance tools and processes
  • Serve as System Administrator for finance platforms
  • Support banking operations to optimize treasury management and maximize Investment Income

Risk & Compliance Management (10%)

  • Support state regulatory and tax requirements such as State Charitable Solicitation registrations and Foreign Entity Registrations.
  • Partner with People & Culture department on payroll projects like registering in new states, reviewing filings, etc
  • Act as the Data Steward of finance related data across finance systems, ensuring Data Governance, Quality and Management standards are met and monitored.
  • Assist the CFO with special projects related to financial and legal compliance.

Requirements:

  • Minimum 4 years of experience in grants management, budgeting, treasury or other finance roles, preferably in organizations with at least $20 million in revenue
  • Experience budgeting for and managing philanthropic grants, including grants spread across multiple departments, cost categories and grant periods
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business, or a related field (preferred)
  • Proficiency in web-based applications and an affinity for streamlining/automating workflows
  • Ability to develop strong working relationships internally and externally
  • Ability to handle sensitive information and situations with confidentiality and effectiveness
  • Attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines
  • Demonstrated respect for diversity and multicultural sensitivity.
