BUILD SPECIALIST (STARSHIP AVIONICS)
The Avionics Specialist role is responsible for supporting parts integration and subassembly builds consumed by production stations. This includes work instruction planning for component installations (harnesses, sensors, trays, etc.) and issue resolution (build, checkouts, change incorporation) to rapidly build early versions of Starship vehicles. Furthermore, individuals in this role will be expected to drive long term production improvements and act as de-facto advisors to production technicians and other skilled labor partners. Avionics Specialists will spend time both in the office and in the field to execute on the mission to build reusable Starships that will someday make the human species multiplanetary.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Disposition avionics issue tickets and drive resolution to closure with work instruction creation
- Improve work instructions from documented work order feedback and collaboration with technicians
- Ensure planning exists for hardware integration and parts are lineside for station start
- Drive periodical walkdowns, documenting findings, and actioning as necessary
- Work closely with the systems and mechanical teams along with cross-functional partners to ensure solutions meet mission requirements
- Analyze and resolve integration and manufacturing discrepancies (design, fabrication, and assembly)
- Creatively work projects based on company priorities to meet and exceed aggressive need dates
- Self-monitor work progress and achieve on time delivery of all work
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Associate's degree or higher in a technical discipline OR 2+ years experience using UG/NX or equivalent design application
- 3+ years experience manufacturing electromechanical assemblies or harnesses with a focus on using electronics test equipment (e.g. DMMs, oscilloscopes, network analyzers, power supplies, DAQs, etc.)
PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
- Proficiency using Windows-based computers and Microsoft Office suite
- Experience in aerospace, aviation, military, or other high-reliability industry
- Prior or current IPC-A-620, NASA 8739-4, J-STD-001, or SpaceX AV1200-4 certifications
- Able to adapt to constant changing work assignments and a fast-paced work environment
- Prior experience with developing, maintaining, and improving wire harness fabrication or test hardware processes
- Experience with Atlassian tools including Confluence and JIRA
- Excellent concentration and attention to detail with outstanding work efficiency and accuracy
- Excellent communication (written and verbal) and teamwork skills
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Must be able to work all shifts and available for overtime and weekends as needed
- Ability to stand for long periods of time and climb up and down ladders. Bending, grasping, sitting, pulling, pushing, stooping, and stretching are generally required to perform the functions of this position. Physical dexterity and general fitness are a must
- Willing to work in extreme outdoor conditions – heat, cold, & rain
- Ability to pass NASA-STD-8739.6B Section 5.7.6 Vision and Color requirements
- Must be able to lift up to 25lbs. unassisted
- Travel to other SpaceX launch/test sites as needed
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:
Pay range:
Build Specialist/Level 1: $30.00/hour
Build Specialist/Level 2: $34.00/hour
Build Specialist/Level 3: $38.00/hour
Your actual level and base salary will be determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on the following considerations: job-related knowledge and skills, education, and experience.
Base salary is just one part of your total rewards package at SpaceX.
