ELECTRONICS TEST SPECIALIST (STARLINK)
At SpaceX we’re leveraging our experience in building rockets and spacecraft to deploy Starlink, the world’s most advanced broadband internet system. Starlink is the world’s largest satellite constellation and is providing fast, reliable internet to 3M+ users worldwide. We design, build, test, and operate all parts of the system – thousands of satellites, consumer receivers that allow users to connect within minutes of unboxing, and the software that brings it all together. We’ve only begun to scratch the surface of Starlink’s potential global impact and are looking for best-in-class engineers to help maximize Starlink’s utility for communities and businesses around the globe.
The Starlink teams are building highly reliable in-space mesh networks, designing secure systems to guarantee access to space, designing next-gen communication and sensing software, and more. You will be responsible for systems that enable rapid development and accurate testing of Starlink software and hardware, with continual focus on design, development and building innovative test systems, from hardware designs to software infrastructure.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Support engineers with standardized testing, root cause analysis and R&D projects
- Read, interpret, and work from free-form drawings as well as from controlled documentation and processes
- Troubleshoot electronics hardware using equipment such as oscilloscopes, digital multimeters, spectrum analyzers, power supplies, and soldering equipment to determine root cause of failures
- Troubleshoot complex problems independently with minimal direction
- Design and fabricate electro-mechanical assemblies, harnesses and test fixtures from conceptual drawings
- Maintain lab cleanliness, organization, equipment calibration, lab consumables, JHAs, and safety procedures
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
- Associate degree in an electronics discipline or a technical electronics certification with 2+ years of direct work experience
- 2+ years of experience performing testing of consumer electronics or electrical hardware
- 2+ years of experience fabricating test fixtures, harnesses and electro-mechanical assemblies
PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
- Ability to fabricate and repair cable harnesses including: soldering, crimping, assembling connectors
- Strong hands-on skillset and comfortable with basic tools and electro-mechanical tasks
- Creative approach to problem solving, exceptional troubleshooting skills and engineering fundamentals
- Strong understanding of technical documentation, engineering drawings, and schematics
- Able to program simple scripts in python for test logging and control
- Experience with high-frequency radio components, links and wiring
- Experience in research and development or fast-paced technical products
- Strong computer skills, including experience with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook) and ability to navigate and manipulate files
- Strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills
- Ability to rapidly change roles/responsibilities while operating in a high-paced, challenging work environment
- Ability to solve complex problems with minimal supervision on tight schedules
- Ability to take project goal inputs and work toward the end-goal beyond individual task assignments
- Ability to be self-directed/motivated
- Ability to read and interpret schematics (engineering drawings, circuit layouts, and parts lists), cable harnesses (wiring diagrams, layout drawings, and parts lists), and mechanical assemblies (mechanical drawings and parts lists)
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Must be willing to work all shifts, overtime, and/or weekends as needed
- Must be able to lift and carry up to 25 lbs.
- Repetitive assembly operations, grasping, standing, lifting, bending, pulling, pushing, stooping, stretching, and carrying are generally required to perform the functions of this position
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:
Pay range: Test Specialist Level 1: $32.00 - $40.00/hour Test Specialist Level 2: $36.00 - $45.00/hour Test Specialist Level 3: $40.00 - $50.00/hour
Your actual level and base salary will be determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on the following considerations: job-related knowledge and skills, education, and experience.
Base salary is just one part of your total rewards package at SpaceX.
