Director of Platform and Operations

About the position:

The Director of Platform & Operations is responsible for overseeing multiple platform engineering teams managing various SaaS products, including DevOps and database engineering. This role focuses on managing people, ensuring a positive work environment, and maintaining technical proficiency. Key responsibilities include hiring exceptional talent, ensuring team success, and fulfilling product commitments.

What You'll Be Responsible for:

• Lead multiple teams working on diverse environments and platforms.
• Develop and implement strategies to optimize our technology stack for performance, scalability, and reliability.
• Ensure timely project delivery across all teams.
• Support engineers' professional growth and skill development through coaching and guidance.
• Provide mentorship and conduct regular 1:1 meeting.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align technology initiatives with business goals.
• Communicate effectively with stakeholders, providing updates on project status, risks, and outcomes.
• Pursue opportunities to enhance productivity and efficiency through cross-departmental collaboration.

Basic Qualifications:

• Minimum of 8 years of experience in technology and operations management, with a focus on platform engineering.
• Minimum of 6 years of experience managing and deploying applications on cloud platforms (Google Cloud Platform, AWS, Azure).
• Minimum of 5 years of experience leading multiple teams in an agile environment.
• Minimum of 3 years of direct people leadership, including talent development and performance management.
• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience leading teams with diverse technology stacks and environments.
• Experience with platforms such as Google Cloud Platform, AWS, and Azure.
• Experience with backend frameworks like Ruby on Rails and languages such as Golang and PHP.
• Experience with databases including MySQL, PostgreSQL, and TimescaleDB.
• Familiarity with technologies like Redis, Nginx, and HAProxy.

Desirable Skills, Knowledge, And Experience

• Experience leading geographically distributed teams.
• Empathetic, proactive, and constructive communication skills.
• Excellent operational principles including observability, alerting, incident management, and capacity planning.
• Proficiency in tools like Jira, Confluence, and Bitbucket.
• Strong negotiation skills to achieve consensus across departments.
• Hands-on familiarity with Terraform, Kubernetes, Docker, and other orchestration tools.
• Experience with configuration management platforms such as Chef, Puppet, Salt, or Ansible.

Hands-on Experience (Advantageous)

• Experience with modern observability tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, and Loki.
• Proven ability to optimize performance and scalability in cloud environments.
• Expertise in containerization and orchestration tools like Kubernetes and Docker.
• Deep understanding of high-performance caching solutions like Redis and Memcached.
• Practical knowledge of load balancing and web server technologies such as Nginx and HAProxy.
• Familiarity with data warehousing and analytics tools, specifically ClickHouse.
• Experience implementing CI/CD pipelines with tools like Jenkins.
