Engineering Manager

SuperTokens builds open-source user authentication. For developers building apps that want users to be able to sign up for the app, they have to build the signup page and other user authentication functionality. SuperTokens offers that out of the box. We enable developers to focus on their core product and integrate user authentication in under 1 hour.

SuperTokens is used by Hackerrank, ESPN and 1500+ applications in production. We have 11K+ Github stars, making us one of the largest open-source authentication projects in the world and in any category from India

As an Engineering Manager, we expect you to spend half your time leading and mentoring a team and the other half writing code yourself.

Your Role and responsibilities

• Work on important projects, writing code and helping teammates work faster.

• Convert product features into concrete engineering tasks.

• Give detailed code reviews for all PRs created by people you are managing.

• Take ownership of the part of the product you are responsible for.

• Help decide how things should be designed and built to make sure they work well.

• Plan for the future growth of our service and make sure everything stays healthy.

• Explain to the team what they need to do and how it helps the company.

• Decide what tasks are most important, like adding new features, fixing problems, or making sure everything runs smoothly.

• Prioritise engineering tasks for your team and make sure deadlines are met.

• Set goals for what you want to achieve and see if you're meeting them.

• Make sure the team stays happy and motivated while getting the job done.

Requirements

• Experience leading people for at least two years: hiring, motivating, helping them grow, giving them power, and managing how well they do. Should have managed junior and senior engineers.

• Being an expert in React, NodeJS, AWS and Java, PostgreSQL / MySQL.

• Being an expert in architecture for web apps.

• Exceptional organising skills: Keeping track of TODOs, writing down everything that is discussed (during a call) and organising them into action points.

• Exceptional communication skills (async and online).

• Bonus: Understanding of authentication concepts (eg: JWTS, Authorization code grant flow, access / refresh tokens, hashing, other authentication providers)
