About Jawnt
Jawnt makes transit the best way to move around our city. We give riders access to every bus, subway, bike, and scooter – all through the jawnt platform and paid for by their employers.
We are reinventing the world of commuter benefits for riders, employees, and transit agencies. Through direct partnerships with providers and thoughtfully-designed technology, our work increases economic access and reduces carbon from private vehicles in our cities.
We manage benefits for more than a hundred thousand people with unique products for employees, organization admins, and transit agencies – including our Unified Transit Benefits platform and the Jawnt Pass. We partner directly with transit agencies in Philadelphia and are scaling to new cities.

Job brief
We are seeking a Chief of Staff to support our growing organization. As the Chief of Staff, you are responsible for making Jawnt a great transportation technology company – for our customers and for our team. This means you’ll be working cross-functionally to ensure that the team has what they need to succeed, and you'll be making direct contributions to key areas of the business.
This position is ideal for someone with a founders’ mentality that wants to work in lockstep with the leaders of an early-stage startup. You will report directly to the CEO, and will also build close relationships with every member and business function of the organization. You’ll juggle several projects at once – and won’t be afraid to roll up your sleeves and do what is needed to drive the business forward. We have big plans for Jawnt this year to bring sustainable transportation to organizations all across the country.
While we have a distributed team, this role will be based in San Francisco and will require regular in-person collaboration with the CEO and occasional travel. We have a co-working space downtown, and you'll also be able to work from home as needed.
If this role sounds like a good fit, we hope you’ll consider joining us on the journey.
Responsibilities
- Have a general understanding of all areas of the business and company goals to ensure alignment and help the company make strategic business decisions
- Lead special initiatives – such as coordinating company OKRs, organizing team events, improving team processes, analyzing business data, and more
- Understand and advocate for the needs of the organization
- Contribute to building a thriving culture throughout the distributed team
- Make core contributions to the business in product, marketing, operations, and/or sales (based on areas of interest and company needs)
- Own core people operations functions, including new employee onboarding, support with recruiting and hiring, and enforcing information security policies
Desired experience
- 2-5+ years in a highly cross-functional role at an early-stage organization (i.e. <20 employees)
- Experience working directly with or as a founder of an early-stage technology startup (i.e. <20 employees)
- Experience contributing to software product development, ideally B2B SaaS, in some form
- Experience cultivating a healthy and thriving culture in an organization
- Passion for sustainable transportation 🚂
Benefits
We know that it takes a lot of hard work to work toward our mission of increasing access to sustainable transportation. As a remote-first startup, we have designed a set of benefits that adapt to how you live and work.
💰 Equity and salary
We provide equity grants because we want every employee to think like an owner. Compensation is standard for our current company stage and commensurate with role and experience.
🚋 Flexible transit and mobility
We offer access to whatever transit you need to move around your city through our very own unified transit platform and the Jawnt Pass. Receive up to $100 / month to spend on qualified transit expenses.
👨⚕️ Comprehensive health insurance
We offer subsidized health, dental, vision, and life insurance.
🏦 401K
We offer a company-sponsored 401K plan.
🏖️ Required time off
We have an unlimited and tracked time off policy and require at least 15 days off per year. In addition, we take time off for 10 company holidays per year.
🖥️ Remote workspace
We equip you with a computer appropriate for your role and any other accessories you need to do your best work. We can reimburse for recurring work-related expenses like a home Internet bill or co-working membership.
📈 Professional development
We provide financial support for your professional development, including conferences, courses, personal coaching, or anything that helps you achieve your professional goals.
