DevOps Engineer

Othram is the world’s only laboratory purpose-built to combine genome sequencing with advanced human identification applications. The laboratory, based in The Woodlands, Texas, is also the only facility in the United States or Canada offering end-to-end, in-house processing from forensic evidence to investigative leads. Over the last three years, this technology has helped law enforcement crack hundreds of cases at the local, state, and federal level, many of which had been unsolved for decades.

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior DevOps Engineer to join our team. As a Senior DevOps Engineer at Othram, you will play a crucial role in optimizing our development and deployment processes, ensuring the scalability, reliability, and security of our systems. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in DevOps practices, automation, and infrastructure as code, with a passion for implementing best practices in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.

Some of the interesting challenges that you'll face:

• Othram's forensic DNA sequencing lab produces large volumes of specialized data; you'll work with bioinformaticists to identify ways to process and store this data in a cost-effective manner.
• Security is key part of every system at Othram, and especially of the DNA information that we produce. You'll help shape the methods used to secure systems, including cloud resources.
• As the first DevOps engineer on the team, you'll play a key part in creating processes and practices in our organization.

Responsibilities

• Architect, design and configure cloud resources to meet Othram's computing needs
• Work closely with development teams to deploy new features and systems, optimize application performance and troubleshoot issues
• Support deployment of various company projects on cloud infrastructure- websites, computing pipelines, data storage, etc.
• Create, manage, and optimize data processing pipelines on AWS Batch/Nextflow/ECS
• Manage hosting for high-traffic public websites using AWS resources like ECS, CloudFront, and Lambda
• Create and implement security plans, backup plans; achieve and monitor compliance with relevant security and goverment standards.

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience in cloud infrastructure, DevOps, build engineering, or similar area
• 3+ years experience with AWS
• Significant experience with cloud orchestration tools like Terraform
• Thorough understanding of networking, computing, containers
• Linux skills: bash scripting, server administration
• Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills
