Klaviyo’s Engineering Team continues to grow to support our ambitious product roadmap and to solve interesting problems that arise when operating at scale. We are a collaborative group and love processes that make our lives easier. The role of Lead, Engineering Operations will help drive our Engineering Operations function at Klaviyo, and build out the Engineering Operations capability within Engineering. You will help enable our Engineering teams to run effectively, while also working closely with cross-functional partners (Product Management and Design) to drive Research and Development (R&D) objectives. You will lead multiple engineering operations initiatives - internal and external - that help drive overall impact for the Engineering team at Klaviyo.
How you will make a difference
- Evaluate team needs then recommend and implement new processes & tools with engineers, engineering managers, directors, and cross-functional partners to solve for our growing need to collaborate holistically across the organization.
- Help the engineering team operate effectively by streamlining strategic initiatives, and providing clarity and visibility on the status of our projects,through proactive communications both internally and to a cross functional audience.
- Partner and collaborate with other operations teams who have shared business outcomes and decision making responsibilities to improve overall R&D effectiveness.
- Collaborate closely with directors, people leaders, and engineering managers to define, document, and operationalize processes that will scale and integrate with the other R&D functions.
- Keep a close pulse on the health of the engineering team, enabling effective communication, and providing actionable next steps to improve.
- Continually identify opportunities for improvement that will help the team scale while maintaining both high quality standards and high velocity.
What you will need
- Technical capabilities as an engineering practitioner. To be effective in this role you need to be able to dive deep technically and hold your own in decision making around technical approaches to problems at scale. (hands on engineering or engineering management experience a plus but not required)
- Passion and experience with engineering practices at scale - this role covers many areas, so experience in all of them is not required. If you get excited about flow and engineering work systems that operate at scale and create a great work environment, this is the role for you.
- 8+ years of experience in Engineering Operations or Technical Program Management in an agile environment.
- 5+ years of experience working in or with software engineering teams.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work through ambiguity to a detailed solution–taking a problem, identifying a path forward, and driving an initiative through.
- Demonstrated effectiveness in building relationships, influencing, and working across organizational boundaries to stay aligned on shared goals.
- You’re a hands-on, collaborative teammate with the ability to take ownership and work collaboratively in leading multiple work streams and initiatives.
