Data Linguist

We are SyncSense - an early stage funded startup currently building a content localisation platform for creators to reach new audiences.

We are looking to hire a young and ambitious Data Linguist to join us as an early team member. A lucrative compensation in terms of cash as well as ESOPs is on offer.

We are on track to raise our next round of funding in the next 2-3 months and assure at least a 100% hike along with a promotion for the deserved candidate.

About the role

• Improve SyncSense’s Localization Engine
• Understanding client content specifications and completing all language translations, interpretations, analyses, and research accordingly
• Making sense of language patterns and translating into simple language
• Completing accurate transcriptions of audio recordings and metadata
• Studying languages, cultures, and societies in order to draft annotation policies for both text and audio data labeling
• Proof-reading translations and interpretations in large text-audio-video datasets from different sources
• Delivering data with high business impact with good documentation of work
• Keeping abreast of trends and developments influencing vernacular languages
• Closely work with our engineering team to produce good quality data at scale
• Innovate methods for data acquisition, cleaning and synthetic data generation
• Training, recruiting, and supervising junior Linguists to move to a lead position
• Attend conferences, lectures, and workshops to expand your skills

Requirements

• A Bachelor’s degree in linguistics, or a related discipline
• Bilingual proficiency in English and Hindi
• Proficiency in one or more Indian regional language (Marathi, Kannada, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Bengali, Gujarati, Punjabi or Odiya)
• Proficiency in a foreign language (German, Spanish, Arabic, Korean or any other) would be a huge plus
• Basic understanding of different applications of Machine Learning
• Practical experience with translation, transcription software and MS Office
• Active listener with a passion for language and lifelong learning
• Problem-solving attitude, self-starter & ability to work independently
• Curious, self-motivated, and loves challenging problems
• Excellent (spoken and written) communication and strong organizational skills
