Senior Backend Engineer

MediaMelon are looking for an exceptional Senior Backend Engineer with a proven record of delivering consistently in high growth and high scale environment. This role is expected to play a vital role in supporting high growth business, drive innovation and deliver the next generation of highly scalable, modular and extensible Big Data Platform technologies. This is a unique opportunity offering a mix of individual contribution and leadership. The role will suit someone who prefers to be hands-on and comfortable leading a team of Backend Engineers.

Responsibilities:
• Contribute individually to design and build highly reliable, available and scalable platforms.
• Understand requirement, customer feedback and transform it to technical solution.
• Own large technical deliverables and execute from scoping through to sign-off.
• Define the high level and low level design and choose the best technologies, components and subsystems for analytics.
• Estimates efforts, identify risks, devises and meets project schedules.
• Continuously evolve/improve MediaMelon backend stack to ensure it is aligned to the Product Roadmap and meets internal SLAs.
• Ensure execution of technology/product roadmap with top quality and clear SLA.
• Be able to conceptualize and develop prototype quickly.
• Identify architectural weaknesses and recommend appropriate solutions.
• Runs review meetings (code and design) effectively and drive the closure of all open issues on time.
• Have complete ownership of application and components.
• Drive technical roadmap of the applications in collaboration with Engineering and Product.
• See broader issues and implications for whole product/team.
• Mentor junior colleagues by leading from example. Be hands on in writing code to agreed standards.

Desired Skills and experience
• Deep hands-on expertise (5+ years) in the programming languages Java, Scala.
• Experience (3+ years) with big data tools such as Apache Kafka, Kafka Streams, Spark, Zookeeper etc.
• Good experience on No SQL databases like Cassandra, ScyllaDB and caching system like Redis.
• Understanding of multi-threaded computing and expertise with the reactive, concurrent, message driven architecture - akka, java concurrency libraries.
• Working knowledge of deploying in public cloud provider such as AWS.
• Experience in designing REST APIs.
• Experience in building data-driven, scalable, large and complex application.
• Should be able to work in the role of an individual contributor in the team.
• Excellent debugging skills and the ability to write API & unit tests.
• Excellent computer fundamentals and problem solving skills.
• Ability to quickly learn new technologies in a dynamic environment.
• Experience and knowledge of open source software, frameworks and broader cutting edge technologies.
