We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join our mission to save democracy by enabling governments to be better informed.

The Role

We are looking for a new senior member to join our team of mission-focused, collaborative, inquisitive software engineers to build our digital policy and learning platforms. You will ideally be comfortable sinking your teeth into all parts of our stack from DevOps, to backend and frontend, and will be an expert in at least one of these areas. It’s an exciting time to join us as we begin to scale. There will be lots of opportunity to influence how we build up our product, platform and team.

As a senior member of the team, you’ll ideally be someone who brings knowledge and experience to the team and can help us grow as a team. You’ll ideally be someone who enjoys taking ownership of pieces of work (including the technical breakdown and communicating with stakeholders, as well as writing code), takes initiative and enjoys teaching and learning from others.

Requirements

  • Proven expertise in at least one of the following areas: front end, back end or devops/infrastructure
  • Demonstrated experience in delivering production ready code on several projects
  • Good knowledge of JavaScript
  • Familiarity with NodeJS and/or React would be a plus
  • Experience using Docker, Kubernetes, GCP or other cloud-based services is a definite plus(we use Google Cloud)
  • Understanding of best practices around building scalable, maintainable and performant designs and code
  • Have a test first mindset, followers of TDD welcome
  • Comfortable working in an agile environment
  • Open communication and a willingness to give and receive candid feedback
  • An inquisitive and investigative approach to work - ideally you’ll be comfortable both pairing and working alone and will enthusiastically seek out ways to improve things
