Software Engineering Manager

We're growing fast and are looking for our first Engineering Manager who has a solid track record of growing tech teams, while still maintaining strong hands-on technical capability.

You will be responsible for multiple components of our complex system. You are comfortable working across Product & Engineering and Operations groups and you are skilled at supporting work across our teams of talented individual contributors. You are motivated to hire and develop your team and you have a track record of doing so.

Role

• Support a team of high performing engineers by removing blockers and setting expectations
• Mentor and help engineers grow every day at Bigblue towards their personal and professional goals
• Maintain a high quality bar for everything your team ships
• Collaborate closely with peers from other functions — Product, Design, Marketing, Sales, and Operations, to name a few—on our overall product roadmap, on product launches, and on ongoing operations
• Hire new team members who meet Bigblue's excellence standards and our culture
• Own the reliability of what your team ships into production. Engineers together are responsible for the testing, reliability and uptime of their systems
• Work with our CTO and Head of Product to shape how Bigblue's product & engineering organization works (no two week sprints, no backlog 🙅‍♂️) — you'll help develop our technical practices, product development processes, recruiting and onboarding strategy, and more

Requirements

• Masters degree in Engineering, Computer Science or related field
• At least 2 years of experience as an engineering manager or tech leader with a record of shipping high-quality products in senior teams
• At least 5 years of experience building complex distributed systems with a micro-service architecture
• Excellent French & English oral and written communication skills and a capacity and motivation to communicate complex solutions to all levels of the organization
• Experience with hiring, and mentoring an effective team
• Curious, open-minded and a compulsive news reader (hello HN!)

Bonus points

• Experience with Go and event-driven systems
• Knowledge and experience with modern frontend frameworks like React
• Experience at tech startups that have scaled fast
