Origin Story of Weird

Weird was founded as “The Weird Science” in 2016. The company is named after the original 1984 movie in which teenage misfits, Gary and Wyatt, use their home computer to create the woman of their dreams personified Kelly LeBrock.

In 2019 during a company-wide strategy week in San Francisco, the company was re-imagined as Weird with a mission to empower creative technologists to make, create and innovate.

Life at Weird

Weird operates internationally; with offices in The Netherlands and New Zealand.

On a day-to-day basis, much of our time is dedicated to our network of partners and clients. Our international agencies regularly exchange people and other resources, making a highly international and constantly changing environment. Our people work with customers to augment their technology staff. We also work in our innovation lab where we commit to early-stage product ideation and delivery through rapid prototyping and workshops.

What we look for

An ideal candidate is an experienced java engineer, a hands-on technologist, a keen interest in their craft and a strong drive to become a deep-specialist in their field.

• At least 5 years experience as a Java Engineer
• Experience with Java 8 - 14
• Ideally some experience with Functional/Reactive Programming
• Ideally some experience with one of the following languages: Scala, Kotlin, Swift, Go or JavaScript
• Goal-oriented, intuitive, empathic and social professional
• Someone looking to develop their craft and grow into leadership roles
