Culture overview
thing is mostly a virtual company, even though the three founders are all living in or close to Karlsruhe, Germany (49.0069° N, 8.4037° E; karlsruhe.de/int.en). In our short history we have (or had) team members from Ukraine, Poland, Columbia, France, Egypt and Germany and our advisory board has members with German, US, Swiss and Indian passports. So I guess you can say that we are a truly int'l company. Our team language is English and it really helps if you can fluently, consistently and easily speak English all day long. thing is an agile company, i.e. we try to master agile values and principles across all aspects of the company, from GA & Leadership, through R&D all the way to S&M or CS. Openess, Transparency, Courage, Commitment and Respect (the Scrum values) are at the core of our company. Our style of communication and collaboration is at eye level. It doesn't matter if you're a founder and senior developer or software development intern. When we work together your attitude and contribution matters, not your seniority or any other classification that may apply to your CV. Learning Culture. Knowing that we tap into unknown territory here and there we invite learning moments to everything we do. We all learn from each other and with each other every day - whether founder, employee or intern. Listen to what our SwDev Intern Lucie Bellenger said: "thing is a very small startup with family like vibes. I really enjoy having my first experience as a frontend developer there as I have a lot of responsibilities, and can work on various tasks from frontend to backend and unit testing. It is a great place to learn and expand your skills! You always get feedback about your work and you are also heard when you have an idea, which is very motivating!"
Virtual-first workplace
Employees can work from anywhere, anytime as long as they find a way to synch with and be a valuable part of their self-organizing and self-managed teams.
