The Society Library careers
The Society Library extracts arguments, claims, and evidence from over twelve types of media in order to construct databases which articulate the logical reasoning from all points of view on complex social and political issues. We then work on publishing this content in a multi-media library in which users can view the evidence that does or does not support certain narratives, browse archived media artifacts that help them understand nuanced concepts, and finally see from all points of view.
Our projects are oriented towards (1) facilitating societal-scale communication, debate, and deliberation on issues that otherwise polarize us and make political and cultural negotiations difficult, and (2) create a centralized knowledge repository of societally relevant knowledge for the purpose of enabling more informed, inclusive, and unbiased decision-making.
In producing the centralized knowledge base (The Society Library itself), the goals for our users are to (1) depolarize our U.S. users, (2) inoculate users to disinformation, (3) increase intellectual humility, (4) increase empathy, (5) increase an understanding of complexity, and (6) increase subject matter knowledge and comprehension. These outcomes are testable.
The Society Library also: (1) supports the creation of educational curriculum through our work with educational partners, (2) teaches logical deconstruction of media through educational internships, and (3) performs various research services and other consulting services as revenue streams to support our nonprofit, charitable work.
