We do a lot of unique things at Synthony. Here's a 3 bullet breakdown: - Compose and produce original new music at the press of a button (under 10 seconds). - Educate our audience on music arrangement and composition techniques. - Create a new music theory, founded on reason instead of feeling. Let me address each of those, in reverse. # New Music Theory Songwriting and composition for too long have been approached on a feeling-first basis. The methods we learn at university for composing scores are not rigorous or provable. Instead, academia only passes on what they know works from performance-practice of composers and music analysts over the past centuries. Why do we need a new music theory? By expressing entire musical works using the numbers 0-16, we can construct algorithms to make optimized choices for building harmonic motion, rhythmic energy, and melodic expression. What qualifies Cortland to do that? I was a working violinist and composer for 10 years, performing in symphonies, chamber ensembles, and as a soloist. Now a working engineer for 5 years, using Clojure and Elm on a day to day to make scalable systems. # Educate Our Audience As a former teaching artist and independent researcher, sharing knowledge is core to my humanity. Most music education resources are designed from a very bottom - up point of view: You first must understand how to play an instrument before arranging music. This is no longer true today, as we have new models and methods for composition. Our content helps our audience learn the algorithms that humans use to compose new music. # At the Press of a Button This is our most innovated product : the Song Designer. This tool lets users easily create musical templates. Our members use this to design songs in patterns they like, and apply parameters for sound style or genre.
