Disruptive innovation in biological manufacturing technology enables us to produce off-patent biological drugs more cost-effectively compared to the current biological manufacturing technologies.

We will produce a biosimilar insulin analog, Lantus (which grossed $7 billion last year and will go off-patent in 2015), as it is a very simple biological molecule and can be thoroughly characterized to be identical to the innovator drug.

Worldwide diabetic population will increase from 366 million in 2011 to 552 million in 2030. The annual worldwide insulin demand has increased from 12 tons in 2007 to 22 tons in 2012. and is expected to further increase to 40 tons by 2020.

While it is reported that it costs about $500 millions to produce every ton of additional insulin in developed countries, we expect our cost of production to be much less than $50 million per ton (i.e cheaper by more than a factor of 10) due to our innovative manufacturing technology.
