More than one thousand news organizations in the U.S. and 5,000 internationally pay for video and photographs generated by third-party content providers. There is neither an integrated platform nor a marketplace that serves as a clearinghouse for media organizations to view, request, purchase or download this material, yet newsroom personnel complete such transactions multiple times each day even though the process is time-consuming and nets unreliable results in terms of content verification. Meanwhile everyone has a smartphone in their pocket and the opportunity to become a content provider and receive compensation has become open to the general public. Stringr offers a platform for video and photographs that enables providers to be paid for their material, and media customers to procure it without the need to be concerned with rights management. Stringr is nearing completion of its beta and has commitments from two newsrooms to pilot the platform this Summer.
