Startup Shell careers
Startup Shell is a student-run startup incubator and coworking space at the University of Maryland. About three years ago, two students transformed an unused storage closet into a coworking space, bringing in tables and chairs from dumpsters and old dorm rooms. Since then, the bootstrapped space has turned into an interconnected coworking environment that provides student-run companies practical resources and business direction.
Currently, there are 50 student-run companies working out of the 1300 sq ft space. The organization provides resources such as access to legal services, prototyping labs, and technology subscriptions. Events are also a main focus as influential entrepreneurs such as Alexis Ohanian, Brendan Iribe, and Steve Blank have all spoke in the space.
The structure of the Shell is different than most incubators as it's a 501c3 non-profit organization. Members are not charged fees to use the space nor does Startup Shell take any equity from companies.
