Founded by former SoundCloud mobile leads, Spoken is a new home for podcasts focused on making a massively more approachable and engaging experience for podcast listeners.

Recent data shows that the growth in podcast listening has come almost entirely from existing listeners, with little growth in awareness and usage with new listeners. We're bullish on audio as a major entertainment format and strongly believe that stagnation in new listeners can be attributed to a fragmented ecosystem largely dominated by iTunes, outdated technology, and complex UX optimized for audiophiles.

At SoundCloud we made a name for ourselves through questioning the merit of every single feature, asking how they related to key user needs, and always keeping empathy for our least tech savvy users in focus. We're taking our battle-tested philosophy of how to build audio apps and bringing it to a market we're passionate about.
