SPIRL believes that an unbelievably fast, low-friction Workload Identity Management solution is the key to zero trust security for companies of all clouds and distributed systems.

SPIFFE, the Secure Production Identity Framework For Everyone, is an open-source CNCF Graduated project and is a universal control plane for distributed systems. It is a set of standards for securely identifying software systems in dynamic and heterogeneous environments. Systems that adopt SPIFFE can easily and reliably mutually authenticate wherever they are running. SPIRE is the SPIFFE runtime environment, and the code that implements the SPIFFE specification on a wide variety of platforms and enforces multi-factor attestation for the issuance of identities. While sophisticated in production, SPIRE implementations require large and expensive engineering teams to configure, maintain and build upon for their specific distributed systems environments. SPIRL is solving this crux.

SPIRE code and implementation needs to be sophisticated and trusted, and the overhead involved has prevented expansive adoption of SPIFFE for small to large-sized businesses, or organizations that don’t want to commit an entire cost-center to building for it.

By enabling users to authenticate with a variety of cloud services, like a hybrid or Kubernetes environments and off-the-shelf software applications without code changes, SPIRL will leverage the power of SPIFFE federation to address a critical point of pain and toil. By solving this high-value use case, SPIRL is positioning a wedge through which the vision of SPIFFE can be easily deployed and utilized by our users to its fullest extent.
