We're a development stage company focused on novel, proprietary corticosteroid (CS) products. Our lead product is a best-in-class Phase 2 clinical stage ready tablet. The drug substance for that, as well as a second drug with the same mechanism of action, are at late preclinical stage for other CS administration routes. 2M US patients rely on long-term use of CS (e.g., prednisone) to control autoimmune and other diseases, but at hazard of many serious side effects. According to HCUP, CS are responsible for over 10% of all drug side effects.
Many CS side effects arise because of how our bodies metabolize CS. The pathway that’s dominant for many CS side effects doesn’t appear to be necessary for CS efficacy. Sparrow’s patented, non-steroidal NCEs inhibit the specific enzyme that’s responsible for many CS side effects. Novel products that combine our inhibitors with CS will become the first effective, safe, convenient, and cost-effective treatments for autoimmune and other diseases.
