In the summer of 2007, a college student couldn’t make sense of textbook prices and the inefficiencies that drove them up. He thought renting textbooks might be the answer and founded our first identity, CampusBookRentals. The concept took off, becoming one of the fastest-growing companies in America and forever changing the higher-education content industry. While we still rent textbooks, we changed our name to Sidewalk in 2013 to reflect our vision of a digital future and a passionate belief that — with the right technology — independent, autonomous college stores offer immense value to students as local retailers. We are making higher education more affordable and accessible by revolutionizing how educational materials are acquired and used by college stores, professors, and students. We’re changing the world in our own small way! We are a true startup, grinding away every day at the biggest and most awesome problems, and trying to figure out where our next office will be after we get kicked out of this one in a few months. Everything we do is inspired by these basic principles: 1- Question Authority No idea is true just because someone says so. 2- Think For Yourself Don’t believe anything just because you want to. Believing something doesn’t make it so. 3- Test Ideas With Evidence Gained By Observation and Experiment A favorite idea that fails a well-designed test is wrong. Get over it. 4- Follow the Evidence Wherever It Leads Reserve judgement if you have no evidence. 5- Remember, You Could Be Wrong
