Every year, consumer packaged goods marketers pay billions to have auditors take pictures from store shelves and report back weeks (or months) later. These audits are an attempt by brands to measure the effectiveness of the retailer, but due to high cost, coverage and frequency are limited. This process can be replaced by an analyst browsing through an online, easily searchable, image library of retail images.

We can replace those auditors as the source of pictures for a fraction of the cost. Our team has developed a method where we get shoppers to take pictures for a very tiny incentive. How? By creating a mobile app that feels more like a game than a job. In fact, we have already crowd-sourced nearly 200,000 pictures of shelves, for less than $8k in rewards. That's 100 times cheaper than traditional auditing.
