Jessie believes that a strong company culture can make a difference. She loves the challenge of building an inclusive culture at SeMI, a remote-first company that spans many time zones. “It definitely helps that I was hired at an early stage. At most tech start-ups, hiring someone in my role is not the first priority. At SeMI, we want to send a clear message to the tech world. Our people are our top priority. My goal is to create a strong remote culture so everyone feels a sense of belonging” she explained. Jessie is inspired by GitLab and Remote.com, other start-ups with strong remote cultures. In addition to developing a strong remote culture, Jessie’s responsibilities include attracting talent and setting up an inclusive recruitment strategy. Jessie sees kindness as a virtue. “Be kind, because when you are nice to people, they feel good about themselves and confident in their own expertise. And that results in great work” she added.
