RIF Robotics was founded by two robotics software experts with PhD's in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Georgia Tech and an industrial designer with fifteen years of product development consulting experience. RIF Robotics is building a robotic system that can assemble surgical trays by identifying, sorting, and inspecting surgical instruments. Currently, the assembly of surgical instruments is a tedious, error-prone, and time-consuming task in hospitals with operating rooms. Errors in tray assembly result in patient infections, surgery delays, frustrated surgeons, and hospital liability. Our system will eliminate this source of error and it will collect important data on instrument usage and condition that will be used by hospital managers and medical device manufacturers.
