With the boom in online orders and delivery services, more and more packaging waste is being produced. Germany is the front-runner here. In 2019, 18.9 million tonnes of packaging waste were produced in Germany, according to the Federal Environment Agency. Per capita consumption is 227.5 kilograms.

As early as 2015, the United Nations adopted the 2030 Agenda with 17 Sustainable Development Goals for sustainable development at the Sustainability Summit. Based on this, the European Commission presented proposals for new EU-wide regulations for packaging at the end of 2022. The aim is to reduce packaging waste with new targets for the recycled content of plastic drinks bottles and for the reuse of takeaway cups and packaging for online deliveries. Targets for multiple use of packaging have been proposed for 2030 and 2040. For non-food online deliveries, 10% and 50% shares of reusable packaging are named as targets.

This is exactly where we start with our project. With reusable packaging for the dispatch of goods, we substitute single-use packaging and contribute to six of the 17 SDGs. After just 10 uses, we save more than 50% CO2 compared to single-use packaging and significantly reduce the need for packaging material. With our digital components, we create additional added value for participating online shops and, in the future, offer the possibility of reporting savings transparently and comprehensibly.
