Precision diagnostics for directing the treatment of cancer
We are a developer of genomics-based precision diagnostic products. Our products are designed to guide physicians and patients to more precise decisions about the treatment of cancer, avoiding unnecessary or unbeneficial treatments. Our products have been developed using a machine learning algorithm to examine the genomic information of cancer populations, producing proprietary biomarkers to distinguish aggressive cancers from more indolent ones. This aids physicians to select the least toxic and least invasive treatments possible while maintaining the lowest possible risk of tumor recurrence.
Our first clinical test, Thyroid GuidePx™, accurately categorizes papillary thyroid cancer patients according to the risk of recurrence so that treating physicians and surgeons can create a treatment plan aligned with each patient's personal genomic information rather than general clinical guidelines. The value proposition to clinicians treating thyroid cancer is substantial, as there is a significant opportunity to reduce overtreatment. The need for a molecular prognostic test is great, as there are no other tests like it on the market.
Currently, physicians use the American Thyroid Association (“ATA”) clinical risk score to make clinical decisions related to thyroid cancer. Therefore, the community is adept at applying prognostic tests to make decisions. However, the ATA clinical risk score is inaccurate. Our data demonstrate that Thyroid GuidePx™ is significantly more accurate than the current standard of care. The ATA clinical risk score can only be fully applied after surgery, once most of the major clinical decisions have already been made. By using Thyroid GuidePx™ prior to surgery, clinicians will be provided with accurate information that will enable them to modify their clinical decisions, potentially reducing the extent of their surgery or perhaps avoiding surgery altogether in selected patients.
