It is clear that stablecoins can hugely benefit a world dominated by fiat currencies. Stablecoins combine the advantages of trustless cryptocurrencies with the stability of managed fiat currencies to provide superior media of exchange. That's why there are many projects in this space, including Facebook's Libra.

What is not clear is whether such crypto money can become widespread. Most people assume that because Facebook is large and used by a huge number of people, Libra can become popular also. Alas, it doesn't work that way. Sending and receiving money is not the same animal as sending and receiving "likes" and emojis and cat pictures. While "likes" and emojis and cat pictures are inexhaustible, money is not. We don't send money profusely just because we can. We would like to receive "likes", yes, all the time; and even though giving "likes" does not cost us anything we are not that generous when giving it.
